A new contemplate from eBay and PayPal aims to make it easier for consumers to buy everything from online books to newspaper subscriptions, and have the support show up on their phone bill.
The PayPal Carrier Payment Network, announced this week at the Active World Congress in Barcelona, also aims to give merchants a bigger share of the revenues generated by transportable payments.
In a blog post, PayPal’s David Marcus says the company is hoping to gumption mobile purchases for a broader range of products than the online games which have dominated the shop until now.
“While convenient for consumers, this method of payment has inherent challenges for other digital goods merchants — such as digital books, music, dating and measure ingredients — to adopt as a primary payment method,” wrote Marcus, who said that awkward fees are a part of the problem.
“Among the challenges is the cost of doing establishment — sometimes upwards of 40 percent — since transactions are processed through the porter, merchants must share part of their revenue,” Marcus added.
