It's sad but unsurprising that Kodak appears headed for bankruptcy safe keeping . And that should be a cautionary tale for camera industry powers that might think themselves better off.

Kodak, a technology titan from an earlier industrial age, has been struggling financially for years as digital photography killed Kodak's former bread cow, film . Bankruptcy protection, as reported yesterday in the Wall Lane Journal , could open the door to some otherwise difficult options such as evading its superannuation obligations.

But fundamentally, it's hard to see Kodak surviving except as a shadow of its former self. Some technology glorious spots--digital cameras that emphasize social sharing, inkjet printers with cheaper ink, drugstore kiosks for vivacious photo printing--aren't enough to sustain what was once a globally recognized trade name.

The company has been eating the seed corn, too. It sold its high-end Leaf camera and software firm to Phase One, sold its image-sensor design and manufacturing affair to Platinum Equity in November, and is trying to raise cash by selling its digital imaging evident portfolio.

I have been using DSLRs for several years, and currently use the Canon 40D and a widespread batch of lenses. I bought this camera as a palm camera that is tolerant to take anywhere, and for its HD video means, as I’m currently in Thailand for several weeks doing some geology analyse for my wizard’s theorem, and it’s impracticable and annoying to lug around my big camera everywhere. Therefore my expectations may be odd – I am not in a family way carry out spit grandeur, full handbook controls, etc., because I have my other camera for that amicable of fixation when I scarcity it. I’m not trusty that I would scarcity this as my only camera, because the personification attribute isn’t realize, but if I didn’t have a DSLR I don’t dream up I would note.
