An old-age pensioners person falls at home, she or he pushes a small button fastened at the wrist or married to a cord around the neck, and within minutes help is summoned. That, in a nutshell, is what the Lifeline services available through Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital is all about.
Offered through the facility's Service League, Lifeline gives subscribers and family members compatible of mind, knowing that if an emergency occurs, help is available 24/7.
Using the latest technology by the Philips electronics business, Lifeline buttons send a message through a telephone landline instrument. Within 30 seconds an assistant at the other end calls a caregiver or friend or reliant on, notifying them that the subscriber may need help. A person in need also can talk with the Philips mingle with if they're in the same room as their Lifeline unit. For an additional charge a cordless extension segment is available for another area of the home, such as the garage.
Joan J. Mahoney, 85, of Salinas, has had Lifeline for eight years. A widow, she lives alone and has no relatives living -away.
