Will a cordless phone die when on speakerphone if it has base speakerphone?

Question: If a phone has loathsome speakerphone (meaning you don't have to take it off the cradle to use the speakerphone) will it die when in use? For example, if I go to sleep on the phone and consign it on speaker will it eventually die, or is it like a cell phone and won't because
